Carlos Suárez Sánchez. Compositor y etnomusicólogo. Galego – Venezolano. Nació en Ourense en 1966. Maestro compositor por el Conservatorio Superior de Música Simón Bolívar de Caracas (mención electroacústica). Etnomusicólogo por el Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales de Caracas. Ha creado más de 40 obras acústicas y electroacústicas. Sus viajes de investigación por Venezuela y el caribe se inician en 1989, principalmente a las áreas culturales afroamericana del caribe e indígena del Amazonas, donde realiza grabaciones y estudios sobre música y paisajes sonoros. Ha trascrito más de 36.000 compases de música tradicional de todo el mundo. Trabajó como investigador para FUNDEF y FINIDE “Fundación internacional de etnomusicología” durante 10 años. En el año 2006 gana en Venezuela el premio nacional de cultura por su libro “Los chimbángueles de San Benito”. En el año 2003 retorna a Galicia, iniciando sus estudios del paisaje sonoro gallego con el colectivo escoitar.org. Ha realizado más de 60 conciertos y presentado sus obras en: Brasil, Colombia, Perú, Chile (Ai-Maako, Tsonami) Venezuela (FLM, TTC), Argentina (Tsonami, CCE), Uruguay (CCE), Portugal (Binauralmedia, Miso Music), Italia (Emufest), Francia (Festival Bourges, Elektrophonie), Alemania (Dar Kleine Field Recording Festival) México (Foro Mundial de Ecología Acústica, CCE) USA (Experimedia) y España (MARCO, MACUF, LIEM, Arteleku, SONAR, Telenoika, Experimentaclub+LIMb0).

Carlos Suárez is a Galician-Venezuelan composer and ethnomusicologist. He was born in Ourense, Spain in 1966. He is a composition teacher at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Simón Bolívar de Caracas and an ethnomusicologist for the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales de Caracas. He has created over 40 acoustic and electroacoustic works. His investigative travels through Venezuela and the Carribean started in 1989, principally in African-American cultural areas of the Carribean and indigenous areas of the Amazon where he recorded and studied music and soundscapes. He has transcribed more than 36,000 traditional musical rhythms from around the world. He worked as an investigator for FUNDEF y FINIDE, the international foundation of ethnomusicology, for 10 years. In 2006 he won the Venezuela national culture award for his book “Los chimbángueles de San Benito.” En 2003, he returned to Galicia, beginning his studies of Galician soundscapes with the collective escoitar.org.
