NEGATIVE MESSAGE (MIDDLE FINGER)

En el vídeo, el artista presenta su interpretación visual del mundo y del ambiente que le rodea utilizando gestos groseros. Estos gestos van acompañados por un elemento visual fuerte pero contradictorio (un arco iris) creando un conflicto ideológicamente y visualmente. De echo, en favor del conflicto, el artista niega el propio conflicto. En otras palabras: con la negación el artista afirma una opinión favorable y positiva. Por lo tanto, el artista logra un mensaje con un impacto irracional, que no tiene que ser considerado con un pensamiento lógico. En el vídeo observamos una actitud salvaje que cuestiona los logros de la civilización, pero la aparición del arco iris cambia el significado del vídeo aportándoles diferentes niveles de significado.

Por otra parte, durante la era soviética algunos de los artistas de Bulgaria estaban más o menos en la oposición al gobierno comunista, pero después de la caída del muro de Berlín, la situación cambió y muchos de ellos tuvieron dificultades para encontrar su lugar en la sociedad – habían estado la mayor parte de su vida en la oposición, y ya no  sabían cómo estar en el otro lado. Es este tipo de situación esquizofrénica o contradictoria la que este vídeo expresa simbólicamente.

This video aims to present Neno’s visual interpretation of the world and the social environment where he lives, by showing seemingly well-known, non polite gestures. Those gestures are matched by contradictory but very strong visual elements (the RAINBOW/SPECTER), which if considered at one level, seem to be in conflict with one another both ideologically and visually. In fact, in favor of the dispute, the artist denies them. In other words: by negation, through denial, he affirms a favorable and positive opinion. As a result, the artist achieves a message with an irrational impact, which does not have to be considered with logical thinking. In the video we observe a seemingly barbaric or even savage attitude, which questions the achievements of the civilization, but the appearance of the RAINBOW changes the videos meaning and makes it multileveled.

On the other hand, during the soviet era some of the Bulgarian artists were more or less in opposition of the communistic government, but after the fall of the Berlin wall, the situation changed and for most of them it became difficult to find a place in society – for most of their life they were in opposition, but now they didn’t know how to be on the other side. It is this kind of schizophrenic situation or at least contradictory theme that this video symbolically expresses.
